Lions Bounce Back

After not a great week last week we hoped the girls would be up for today.

We certainly got our wish. From the first whistle we pressed high, all worked hard for each other and pressed Catshill back with almost all the play in their half. Some brilliant football and passing and moving particularly through midfield and up front using all the width of the big pitch.

We arguably didn't get the goals our pressure deserved with Gracie, Madge and Carly all going close after some great pressure and crosses into the box.

The football was by far the best we have played this season and took the lead through Carly. Some great work out wide from Gracie. Beating her marker and crossing brilliantly into the path of Carly. She controlled brilliantly and smashed it into the top corner for 1-0.

Catshill were restricted to break aways with their tall centre forward looking the only danger but the back 4 kept chances to a minimum. When called upon Ali covered and made a couple of great saves and came out well to cover danger.

We got a deserved second when Lotte and Madge combined to find Scarlett who pressured the keeper we spilt the ball for her to lift into the empty net.

Another couple of chances came and went and 2-0 half time.

Second half we started really well again. Keeping the pressure on and not allowing Catshill any time on the ball. Any breaks were well dealt with by the defense.

We scored a third through Scarlett after a long kick from Ali. The ball bouncing through to her she broke well and lobbed the keeper for a lovely finish to make it 3-0.

We then switched off from a throw to allow their forward a clear run through and she finished passed Ali well for 3-1.

Almost immediately they broke through the big forward again. Ali saved well and played forward quickly. Lily May chased the kick down the keeper spilling. Her follow up shot was blocked, breaking to Chloe. From a really tight angle she lifted it well into the top corner for 4-1.

Again it was all Lions and the football was brilliant at times. Keeping possession, using it well, all being confident with the ball.

A 5th game with about 10 mins left and was another great finish. Jess M was found well by Lotte. She drove forward to the edge of the box before smashing it into the top corner for her 2nd of the season. A goal that was well deserved for her effort and workrate.

Final score 5-1.

Genuinely proud of how well we played today. Every player gave their all and the football was great to watch. Their linesman commented on how good our girls played today and how the football we played was lovely to watch.
