Todays result did not reflect our performance today against Woodcombe. We started strongly, Kaden, Freddie and the team were solid defensively and quick on the counter attack, we created a number of chances. Finley and Axl went close a number of times but couldn’t find that breakthrough until a great finish from William got us under way. We went in at half time only 1-0 up when it could have been 3 or 4. Cooper had another all action display in midfield then turned his hand to goalkeeping after the break where we continued to dominate. William worked hard showing some great skills. Both Felix and Pippa took their turns on pitch and contributed to some great moves. We had more chances but their keeper was having a great day between the sticks. Woodcombe got an equaliser before 3 contentious goals in the space of 3 minutes meant we were 4-1 down with 5 minutes to go. Felix was really brave in goal diving into feet but the refs decision went against us! Rovers were back on the attack pushing for a come back, Finley & Pippa did a great 1-2 only for Finley to get foiled by the keeper before he could slot it away, but we felt it was coming. Cooper and Axl worked their magic down the right, Axl crossed to Finley who was composed and slotted it in past the keeper making it 4-2 with only a few minutes left. In what turned out to be the last attack of the game Finley battled to win the ball back and knocked it to Axl who smashed it in with a great strike making it 4-3. Sadly their was no time left for an equaliser but what a great performance, dominated the game, defended well, some great passing, lots of chances and amazing goals. Woodcombe 4-3 Iwade Herons
Freddie was Parents Player of the Match for his determined display in both attack and defence, always making it difficult for their strikers, Kaden was Managers Player of the Match for an equally solid display in defence showing he was listening in training so that when he won the ball back, made sure he played it up the pitch to our players to keep possession.
Well done Rovers!
