vs Tonbridge United
Home league match
Insulators Reserves gained their first win of the League season thanks mainly to a five goal strike from Harry Mascall, his second hat-trick in two weeks. The opponents were Tonbridge United, with whom they had drawn 3-3 early in the season.
Last week Insulators Reserves conceded inside 30 seconds but on Sunday it was Sam Minter-Frier putting his team into an early lead on 35 seconds. When Harry Mascall made it 2-0 after ten minutes it was looking good for the home side. However, the match between the two sides last month ended 3-3 and was a great contest. Tonbridge United were not prepared to lay down and a fine through ball led to their striker Elliot Checkley lobbing the home keeper for 2-1. They followed this with a good spell of pressure and gained a foothold in the match. Craig Smith made a good save in the Insulators goal on the half hour but on 35 minutes an attacker was brought down just inside the box and the penalty was converted by Matt Donnelly for 2-2. It was then end-to-end with Insulators hitting the crossbar but at half time it remained 2-2.
The second half started with United in the ascendancy and Insulators struggling to find their earlier fluency. The away side missed a great chance and with twenty minutes left it looked like Insulators could be aiming for another draw. The final nineteen minutes belonged to Harry Mascall (with the help of his teammates). On 71 minutes a long distance shot flew in and five minutes later it became 4-2 as he scored with an angled shot for his hat-trick. With seven minutes remaining he tapped in from close range and then with the last action of the match added his fifth with a 25 yard free kick .
It was a first match in the West Kent Sunday League for referee Peter Williams who handled the game well.
