Home league match
Insulators Reserves are catching up with the leaders after their sixth successive win, this time at home to Speldhurst Rangers.
On a cold and wet morning at the Memorial ground, Insulators seemed the keener team before kick off and this was certainly the story of the first half. Speldhurst had watched Insulators warm up not feeling envious at all. Eventually Speldhurst slightly warmed up on the pitch (much to Insulators players displeasure). Justin Guthridge hit the post from a free kick two minutes in. Craig Smith, the Insulators 'keeper knew his angles by the looks of things as he watched it onto his pot. Otherwise Rangers didn't really trouble the Insulators goal. Both teams tried to cope with the conditions as best they could. Insulators created several excellent chances with a mixture of poor finishing and super goalkeeping somehow keeping the game level at half time.
Unfortunately a strong 50 / 50 challenge meant both teams losing a player to injury before halt time. It was later confirmed that Khris Weedon had suffered a broken ankle. Lets hope he has a speedy recovery as he has been one of the form players for Insulators this season.
Speldhurst certainly improved after the break and the game was a much more even affair with both teams missing good chances to score. Speldhurst had a strong penalty shout turned down when Dan 'the badger' Kelly had a shot at goal which hit the insulators defenders hand. With twenty minutes to go, Insulators changed formation and personnel and the reward was instant as Harry Mascall scored the opening goal of the game after Rangers defence failed to clear a rebound..
Speldhurst responded, Insulators defended stoutly. Nik Weedon scored the second goal of the game when Ranges stopped for an offside flag that never came. The focus changed to secure another clean sheet for Craig Smith in the Insulators goal. A great game played in good spirits and hopefully we manage to get more games played over the festive period.
