Smallest Pitch Win

Incepcion returns to local action after a successful week in Bangkok and launches its new kit with this game. To our surprise, the field was very small. In fact, it was like half the size of what we played in Bangkok. Hence, Colin decided to change formation to 4-4-2.

The game started and the strategy was simple. Send all balls into the box as Ron could easily reach it with his goal kick and we did piled the box with players trying to meet it. It was tough to play as the pitch was simply too small. We had no problems containing this young and inexperienced side. We created a lot of chances but couldn’t convert until Colin scored with a looping miskick. I then added a second from a defensive mistake. While we were good, we were often caught out by the young team and a great volley from the left gave Sherman no chance. Richard then added a third goal when he finished with aplomb just in front of goal. Good work from Max who wriggled his way down the right to square to Richard for his finish. Half time 3-1.

Second half resumed soon and Colin added 2 more goals to complete his hat trick. A sumptuous cross was headed in and a pivot by Colin concluded the score line. Final score 5-1 although it could have been more.

An easy game where we were too much for the opponents. Comments were that if it was a bigger pitch, we might have suffered. But I begged to differ. We had more quality than them and we would have been able to do the same if not better.

Last comment from me. Why do we keep screaming at our own team mates angrily? Is it really necessary? Does it help?
