Neutral league match
We returned to league action this weekend after a 2 weeks hiatus due to the manager not being available. It was a tough clash on paper as we were facing the league leaders, Marists. We were also told the bad news that Max will be playing his last game for Incepcion as he accepted a 200k per week offer from a professional club in Somalia. Despite being a league game, team members still stroll in slowly at 4.45pm, 25 minutes after the assembly time. Some even came just before kickoff.
We started strongly and easily controlled the game. Max was running the show and ably supported by Andy's incessant harassing. We got a couple of shots off from far, like Dave and Benny but all went over ala Ron. Benny was causing plenty of problems on the left and after a long cross field ball from Dave, he cut in and sent a screamer into the top right corner. This gave us the lead. While it seemed that we were well on top, it wasn't that true as their striker was causing us problems. He was a strong target man and he was capable of laying off dangerous balls for runners. We conceded a soft goal when Sherman allowed a corner to slip through his hands that crept into the top corner. We then piled on the pressure but couldn't get any more goals. Half-time 1-1.
Obviously, we were doing well since the manager didn't have any messages during half time. Nothing was actually said other than Bee arriving to take pictures.
We started the second in a similar vein as no new instructions were given. Pikachu latched onto a through ball and subtly flicked it over the rushing goalkeeper for a sublime goal. Benny then miskicked a cross which looped over the goalkeeper for the 3rd goal. In between this, Max was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty. Colin promptly sub himself on and missed the penalty. Final score 3-1.
We might have beaten the league leaders but we have 2 more tough games coming up. And we will be without the influential Max. We need to step up our game in order to get results. I hope this will drive us further.
