Grassland Heroes

We returned to action after a week's layoff due to Harold's wedding. Almost didn't get a league game as many teams opt out of playing on natural grass. Thankfully, Grandiators agreed to play, probably thinking how worse can it be after conceding 8 goals in their last fixture.

On a rare hot Saturday during the monsoon season, Grandiators kicked off with a man short, and 2 missing Africans who tormented us previously. Colin was adamant to get a quick start and instructions were heeded. We raced into a 3 goal lead within 15mins. Pat got things underway with a long awaited bicycle kick goal and Colin helped himself to 2 more goals to increase his tally for the season.

Eventually their 11th man turned up and a defensive mistake from Yiong and Jansen allowed the opponent to pull one back at close range. Yiong immediately made amends by reacting first to a loose ball to gave us back a three goal advantge. We were cruising and then catastrophe strucked when our guest keeper unintentionally handled the ball outside the box and was given a straight red. SK took over for the rest of the match and was outstanding!

We managed to put in a 5th just before the break through Yew Boon. At the break, Colin mentioned that attack could be our best form of defence even though we are down to 10. It was a master stroke, as a crossfield long ball from Benny to a galloping Pat put us 6-1 up. Jansen was playing one of his worst game as he made another horrendous mistake at the back. A seemingly harmless situation became a horror show as his back pass came off short and allowed the opponents to pull another back.

But Incepcion were not to be denied one of their biggest win this season as we hit back with 2 more goals. Colin got his hattrick and Yew Boon added a second to his name.

With the win, we climbed to joint 2nd (3rd on goal difference) in the table but with a game in hand. Well done team, we go again!
