Home cup match

The Hunters played host to St Neots Town Youth U12 Navy.

In a pulsating cup tie, Huntingdon Town emerged victorious with a final score of 5-3.

Town lined up in a 3-4-1 formation, with Noah White stationed as the goalkeeper.

The defensive trio comprised Samuel Davids on the right, Henry Smith in the centre, and Stefan Marsei on the left.

The midfield was anchored by Magnus Kristensen and Sam Godfrey in central roles, while Reuben Zimmermann operated on the right and Roman Lawrence Alexander on the left.

George Smith led the line as the striker, tasked with converting chances into goals.

The substitutes for the match included Will Stewart and Josh Cooke.

The match began with Huntingdon Town asserting their dominance early on.

In the 11th minute, Roman Lawrence Alexander opened the scoring with a close-range effort, expertly assisted by Henry Smith's long pass.

This early goal set the tone for an exciting encounter.

However, St Neots responded swiftly, equalising in the 23rd minute with a goal from close range, followed by another strike just three minutes later, putting them ahead 2-1.

As the first half drew to a close, Huntingdon Town found themselves trailing, but they regrouped during the break.

The boys struggled with the size of the opposition in the first half, but once it was explained the only advantage they had was when the ball was in the air it clicked and we came out for the second half with renewed vigour, and in the 34th minute, George Smith levelled the score at 2-2, converting a corner delivered by Roman Lawrence Alexander from close range.

St Neots, however, were not to be outdone and regained the lead in the 41st minute with another close-range goal.

The Hunters made tactical changes shortly after, bringing Sam Godfrey back on for Magnus Kristensen in the 43rd minute.

This substitution proved pivotal as the boys began to find their rhythm with Sam Godfrey taking on board the HT team talk and started pulling the strings in central midfield.

In the 46th minute, Roman Lawrence Alexander struck again, this time from a thunderous direct free kick from a blatant foul on the edge of the box.

The momentum shifted dramatically, and just before the final whistle, Stefan Marsei extended the lead to 4-3 in the 59th minute, finishing off a well-placed cross with his right foot from Reuben Zimmermann.

As the match approached its conclusion, Roman Lawrence Alexander capped off a remarkable comeback performance by scoring his third goal in the 61st minute, sealing a 5-3 victory for Huntingdon Town.

The final whistle confirmed their place in the next round of the cup, with Roman Lawrence Alexander taking home the MOTM award and special mention to Reuben Zimmermann playing out on the right wing with an outstanding contribution today.
