Match report - Hove Lawns 6 Hove First 3

Jack Judd hit a second-half hat-trick as Lawns took the first meeting of the two Hove-based clubs this season.

Christian Fuller got the ball rolling in the first-half, casually looping the keeper after being played through on goal by Adam Tighe.

Lawns soon doubled their lead when Matt Phillips was quickest to react to Fuller’s long-throw, nodding in at the far post. Lawns were creating plenty of chances with Luke Mitchell just off target from range while Tighe forced a low save from the keeper and Neil Bull headed against the bar.

However, a long throw of their own helped Hove First back into the game and Lawns had to battle out the remainder of the first half as their visitors came back into the match.

Judd was introduced at half-time in place of Ben Travis, and last season’s top scorer made an immediate impact as he squared for Phillips to tap in his second and restore Lawns’ two-goal cushion.

The visitors halved the deficit once more with an exquisite free-kick but Lawns never looked like giving up the win they richly deserved, and Judd struck twice to end the game as a competition.

Travis replaced Fuller and his dogged determination helped set-up Judd’s first while the inspired Phillips returned the favour, this time providing the low cross for Judd to finish.

Richard Allchild produced a superb save to deny the visitors but there was nothing he could do to prevent a late header from reducing the arrears.

It mattered little as there was one last sting in the tail, as Judd was slipped through on goal by Tighe, and the striker completed a brilliant second-half hat-trick to round off an impressive Hove Lawns win.

MOM – Jack Judd, Matt Phillips and Ben Travis although it was an excellent all-round performance from the side.
