A beautiful sunny day at the Pineapple Stadium... the final match of the season with Tadley playing for pride and Hook playing for the title. No pressure on the boys, if they just play the simple stuff, as they have done so well over the last few weeks.
Overall, Hook had the run of play throughout the whole match with Tadley occasionally breaking through and threatening, but Hook dealt with those moments relatively well. Unfortunately, Tadley did nick through and opened the scoring. No need to panic. At the final break, the players were reminded that they had scored 2 goals or more within a 15-minute period on a number of occasions this season, and there was no reason they couldn't do that again.
The final quarter was owned by Hook but they just struggled to get the killer strike. With barely 2 minutes left a superbly struck 20-yard free kick was scored, and the last bit of effort raised again. To no avail.
1-1. The title gone, but 2nd place still up for grabs with a play-off... another match against Curley Park! Watch this space.
To summarise the season:
- The Div 3 title missed by a whicker
- The lowest number of goals conceded in Div 3
- A 7-game unbeaten run to end the season
- Only 3 defeats in 16 League games
- In the Top 10 for Sportsmanship in the entire League
There is some much more to the Hook season, including their amazing team spirit. This has been a season to remember and be proud of for every single player. And there is still more to come...
