Away league match
A cold morning at Rushmoor for the re-scheduled fixture against the Vulcans - the pitch was hard but softened as the match progressed.
A full turnout allowed for 2 subs, and the line-up to be a strong one and hopefully pick up points with Hook 3 games behind most teams in the division. However, with S G still nursing a heavy cold/cough but heroically insisting on playing, the manager played it a little cautiously and opted for 3 at the back.
The first half was a strange one - nothing really wrong as the players played some decent football, created attacking play down both sides of the pitch and through the middle. Overall, a lack of spark and a touch of naivety was all that let them down. Four instances of offside against Hook in the first half alone - both the forward players AND the player making the pass could have done a little better in their awareness.
The second half continued in a similar vein, until Rushmoor got in behind the defence and lobbed the 'keeper for the opener. Immediately, the energy levels in Hook increased notably, there was also a much more aggressive stance in their attacking play. The formation was also changed to have 2 at the back and 2 up front. The woodwork saved Rushmoor twice (including the opposition goalkeeper's touch on to the bar) and a lack of composure on occasion when shots could have been hit softer, less rushed, etc.
The 1-0 defeat stood; nothing less than Rushmoor deserved - but certainly a win that Hook should have had.
