Home league match
Hollington 2nds were back in action after having their game last week cancelled, with a home league game against Wittersham. With a number of players either on holiday or injured, Michael Shaw had to shuffle the pack, with Mike Hollands switching to centre back and Taylor Beale starting at left back. It was the home side who settled, first with Emile Tambeh being instrumental in some probing forays into opposition territory. It was Wittersham however who scored the first goal of the game, after a good spell of possession their striker sprung the offside trap to find the bottom corner. The goal jolted Hollington into action and it was they who dominated the rest of the half, consistently being first to the ball and putting together some nice passing moves. They were rewarded for their efforts, when the impressive Graham Stovell curled a corner directly into the net, leaving the otherwise excellent away keeper with no chance; a great bit of technique from Stovell and he clearly meant it. Hollington continued to impress in the second hall, but without ever being able to find the cutting edge required to edge them in front of their opponents, with Stovall, Tambeh and the marauding Ross Langton all going close. The game fizzled out towards the end, but not before the away side (who were always looking to play on the counter) had some attempts of their own. However, thanks to the efforts of Alex Ivanescu in goal and some last ditch defending, Hollington stood strong. Overall the home side will be disappointed not to take 3 points, but the signs are there that they have a squad able to challenge at the very top again this season. MotM was a tough one, but this week it was Graham Stovell
