Home league match

Well, tody was a "new experience" with regards to the result - a draw - our first of the season.

Only one player missing today (Owen Rooks on hol in Australia) so a squad of 13 to choose from. We started with the formation that has served us well for the last two matches and it was clear from the early minutes of the match that this was going to be a tight contest. Easington looked up for the fight and contested every ball, probably better than we did to be honest, however we created the better chances in the first half but couldn't convert them and we found ourselves going into the half time break 0-1 down after Easington scored with a very good strike from outside of the box on 25 mins. The pitch condition was proving to be very difficult, boobles everywhere and it did prove costly when James was clean through but the bobble took the ball away from him as he was just about to take the ball around the keeper and it allowed the keeper to recover and make a good save. Aaron McGregor was extremely unfortunate not to score when his acrobatic volley just went over the crossbar.

The lads were more up for it in the 2nd half and we eventually got the deserved equaliser on 50 mins. Following some good play from Mete, the Easington defence stood still as they felt the ball went out of play, the ref didn't blow the whistle so Owen Croz done the right thing and played on, lobbing a neat cross which was met by James on the volley, great finish 1-1. We pressed for a winner and their keeper made another good save from James in the later stages of the game. Easington had their moments too in the laast 10 mins but some good defending and good goalkeeping kept them at bay.

Man of the Match - Carl - a great defensive display today, solid and reliable- well done.

In Summary - a good entertaining game, both teams will probably feel they didn't deserve to lose so on balance you could say a draw was fair result. I don't feel we were at our best today, we played much better in our last match against Soccarena so the lads just need to bring their best form on a weekly basis to each game. Lots of positives to take from today & also a couple things to work on.
