Away friendly match
Bit of travelling involved going up to play a team from the calder valley league, bit of an unknown quantity but they boasted a pre season win over last seasons promoted team from our 3rd division Rochdale Dynamos.
A tough ask for the lads but it’s all about getting minutes under their belt.
From the off the lads started really well on a pitch that certainly needed a good trim !!
3 minutes and Heyside FC broke the deadlock, Cameron Hough sending Liam Maher through to put the team ahead.
As so often happens the opposition equalised not long after and luckily scored their second against the run of play in the 17th minute and went in front.
Heads didn’t drop and Heyside got back on level terms when Jordan Delves chipped a delightful ball through to Danny Else on the left, he steadied himself just inside the box and chipped the flailing keeper with a well taken shot.
Heyside started to boss the game and from a corner that was floated in from Kyle Townsend, Jordan Delves was on hand to poke the ball home, just what the team deserved and just before half time.
HT - 2-3
The opposition came out in the second half putting a serious amount of dirty tackles in, causing the game to get really scrappy, it worked for them as they scored two goals in 10 minutes.
Not to be deterred the team started to get back on top and with a bit of a scramble in the box Liam Brown managed to somehow feed the ball into Dom Woods path and he gleefully smashed the ball home.
Brian Hawksworth made some great saves and it seemed to spur the lads on.
A draw obviously wasn’t what the team had come for and another scramble in the box with shots raining in from firstly Jordan Delves then Adam Ford, the ball broke kindly to Liam Maher, with pin point accuracy he slotted it into the goalkeepers left hand corner.
With three quarters of the game gone Dom Wood sent a ball through, the opposition called for offside but Jordan Delves quick thinking caught them out and after his first shot was saved from the 18 yard box, the ball ricochet back to him and he cooly buried it.
FT - 4-6
