A poor start from a very young Heyside team tonight saw them leak two early goals one was a penalty .
A bit of grit and determination saw them quickly grab two goals back, firstly it was Joe who picked the ball up outside the box and unleash an unstoppable shot into the right hand corner then Joe doubled his tally not long after inside the 12 yard box after great work from Dom down the right hand side who’s quick pressing stole the ball and crossed to Joe who tapped into the left hand corner.
Another goal for the opposition from the penalty spot but yet again Heyside where quick to equalise with Michael in the centre of midfield sliding a through ball into James, he took a touch to adjust and saw the keeper racing towards him, he cooly chipped the keeper and the ball neatly nestled in the net.
An unbelievable game this was turning out to be and again Heyside conceded from a direct free kick.
Not to be undone Heyside pressed high as time was running out in this first half and they were rewarded with a penalty when Joe was brought down. He picked himself up and took the ball that was going to be his hat trick but unfortunately the goalie read his spot kick and it went behind for a penalty.
HT 4-3.
Substitutes warmed up and fresh legs where introduced, but it was the opposition that got on top scoring their 5th and 6th goals, if it wasn’t for Brian in goal it could have been more, he pulled off some stunning saves in this half.
Heyside were very disjointed and looking ragged but managed to claw their 4th goal with Adam F blazing down the right wing, he looked up and whipped the ball into the area, there was James to slam his second goal of night high into the middle of the goal.
With numbers short at the back it was inevitable that Heyside would concede again and they did making it 7 for the opposition.
Heyside kept on pushing and threw everything at the home side but the ref blew and it finished FT 7-4.
Yes it was heartache for the young team and a number of lads did play out of position and there was a few lads missing tonight but it was a great effort on a pitch that had extremely long grass so was difficult to pass on, the referee didn’t help as he was too picky and fussy and was forever stop starting the game.
Well done to Brian who thoroughly deserved the MOTM award.
Lessons need to be learned and quickly before the next match at home on Sunday 1st September.
