Away league match

Heddon kept up the pressure on league leaders Haltwhistle Jubilee with a hard fought away victory against a well-organised Prudhoe Town side.
On a ground which hosted a ten goal thriller between the two teams in the cup last season, this was a far less open affair, with both sides struggling to make clear cut opportunities on a vast playing surface.
With various players missing due to work, injury, hangovers and the expensive running cost of an Audi, Heddon started with an unfamiliar line up, with the lesser spotted Scott Flynn and restored villain Joe Slade paired together at centre half.
With the game in doubt due to the irate Prudhoe clubman's demand of an apology from the shy and retiring Ciaran Porter, (after committing the heinous crime of kicking the ball off the clubhouse), the game eventually started on time.
Heddon kept possession well with Prudhoe flying into tackles – Elliott in particular,on the end of some meaty challenges. The opening twenty minutes passed without much incident, with Heddon comfortably on top in the midfield, but lacking a killer pass to get in behind the watertight Prudhoe defence.
The deadlock was broken on 25 minutes, Scott Flynn’s ball into the channel was run on to by Woody who crossed to the far post for Dan Walker to slot in from close range. Minutes later, the home side almost equalised with their first attempt on goal, their number 10 cushioning a raker of a crossfield ball, with Waddsy equal to his strike on goal.
The home side were increasingly getting frustrated, with the referee having to tell their players on more than one occasion to reduce their dissent.
Heddon got their second goal soon after half time, Sean’s nearpost corner landing on the head of Andy “Didier” Appleby, who had the freedom of Prudhoe to head home, with no home defender within the same postcode as him. Heddon home and hosed…Well not quite, for some unfathomable reason, Heddon completely switched off after taking a two goal lead. A scrappy goal for Prudhoe 15 minutes from time, led to a nervy, backs to the wall finish to the game. The only light relief being Phil Edmondson’s cameo, including a dummy to his imaginary friend!
Ultimately though, another three points in the bag and almost certainly second position at worst this season. Not a vintage performance but no shortage of effort.
