vs Wheatsheaf Royals

Away friendly match

Hythe lined up for their second vets game against cup finalists Wheathsheaf Royals. We expected to compete but did not expect to win.

Double take on skipper ‘skinny Jeff’ before KO were had by all, who proceeded to show off his ‘beach body ready’ to us and what a beautiful body it is.

Alex Quinn very kindly offered to officiate the game as Baresh was running late. He is the first ref in Christian football to call one of the players ‘a little prick’ as they disagreed with one of his few decisions.

Within minutes of KO and Hythe were putting pressure on a fearing Wheathsheaf defence and it wasn't long before a big ball over the top from Grant saw Luke ‘Alan Shearer’ Wright power his way through and smash the ball into the net. Screams of ‘I have never had an assist before’ were heard from the Hythe goal as Grant went on his way for a lap of honour.

After the restart Wheathsheaf put a lot of pressure on a strong Hythe defence, and a last ditch tackle from Matt ‘Kante’ Bennett denied the popular 13 of Wheathsheaf from equalising. Grant picked up the loose ball and got the counter attack going and neat footwork from Luke and Dean saw Jay ‘no way I am defending today’ go through one on one with the keeper and finish with ease.

Minutes later and the very impressive Luke won a free kick on the edge of the box and cries of ‘this is perfect for a left footer’ could be heard over and over again until skipper Jeff shouted maybe Irish Dannie should take it. Dannie stepped up with pure confidence and despatched the ball into the back of the net. A goal that can only be likened to the David Beckham free kick against Greece a few years back!

Just before half time and Wheathsheaf managed to pull a goal back and half time was 3-1.

After half time Hythe were looking over confident and positional structure was going astray.

Mike ‘Tyson’ Burgess decided to spice up the game by starting on the 13 who was twice his age, all was forgiven 5 minutes later when he swapped the yellow top for a green one.

The two full backs - Parfs and Jimbo put in sterling performances and thankfully nobody noticed Jimbo tread on the ball and go arse over…

The final goal came from an in swinging ball from Stu for Arjan ‘Bryan Robson’ to latch on to and finish from the edge of the area.

All in all a very good performance from the second official performance from Hythe Vets.

Where the hell was Bexsy?
