Away league match

Today we visited Sutton United for our 10th straight league game, which is crazy as we’ve had no games called off so far and only have 8 league games left!

A great effort from Rushy (and Pete) who had a cross-country run and had to get across from Smethwick in time for kick-off (something I almost didn’t do myself thanks to Solihull traffic ???????).

With Fin still out, Sanders sick and Bailee unavailable, once again we didn’t have a full squad to choose from.

A bright start from the Reds and early signs were good, with Rushy unlucky not to score when hitting the crossbar.

Sutton, who pass the ball around very tidily, seemed to wake up after this and got themselves in front fortuitously when a long-range strike was spilled by Harrison and trickled into the net. I take some blame for this as we were late and didn’t warm up properly at all. A very unlucky moment for our number 1, but nothing worth dwelling on.

1-0.

Sutton then scored a nice goal that Harrison could do nothing about, with the winger crossing the ball low and the striker met it first time which flew into the corner, 2-0.

It was 3-0 when their midfielder was allowed to run from halfway to the penalty spot and slot home, I was most disappointed with this one as he was shown far too much respect, 3-0.

The Reds were struggling now and not really looking a threat anymore as well as looking a little vulnerable, as heads had dropped, understandably.

HT 3-0.

The second half followed the same pattern, despite the best efforts of some of the lads, we just seem to have lost our mojo the last 2 weeks, not helped by having no training and lads missing etc.

Sutton grabbed another 2 goals to really sink the Reds today and make this one to forget.

We did come close a few times, with Rushy Omar and Rayyan having our best efforts but unable to find the net.

Always some positives though and I thought Kielan looked terrific in central midfield until he had to come of injured, and Harry had a good second half in the middle, showing good strength and determination as well as working hard - something I’d like to see every week.

Likewise, Oscar had a good game at right-back and won MOTM for his efforts, tackling well and making lots of clearances, with the kind of work-rate and desire I would also like to see every week. Well done Oscar!

So a difficult couple of games on the road, but with training resuming and a weekend off to refresh next week, I’m sure we can bounce back quickly and rediscover that fine form from a few weeks ago.
