Our first game since 9th November (10 weeks off!!) brought us to Kings Heath Panthers in the divisional cup. Kings Heath are sitting pretty at the top of Division 2 so the draw couldn’t have been more difficult, and so it proved.
The first 10 minutes were OK, the lads looked in the mood for battle, but this was short-lived as Kings Heath piled on the pressure. Before we knew it, we were 2-0 down and this was without their striker who some of us know from the Lyndon days. When he came on, I think he ended up with 5 goals himself. Nothing Harrison could do about any of them in all fairness, either close range at power or excellent finishing from the edge of the box.
The second half wasn’t as easy for Kings Heath, as the lads were battling for their pride. Unfortunately we couldn’t trouble their keeper today, even if we managed to get in behind, their CB was as quick as anyone I’ve seen, and just kept knocking it back to the keeper to clear.
It was a ruthless display from Kings Heath, who weren’t in the mood for sympathy, and a tough one to swallow for the lads but in all fairness we’re divisions apart on paper and that gap will widen next season when they are promoted.
Positives: 70 minutes in the legs after such a long break, Harrison still managed to pull off a string of great saves and JP put in a captains performance, battling to the end despite the game being beyond us, and rightly picked up MOTM.
Our next game is the open cup against Solihull moors, a team familiar to us and not such a big gap in quality, so all to play for.
Chin up lads, hopefully we’re fit and firing again when the league games start back up.
