Away league match
Today we travelled over to Walmley to face a side that have won 5/7 home games this season.
With the pitch having a clear slope, we decided to do the hard work and go up-hill first half, thanks to JP winning the toss.
Walmley were compact and difficult to break down, with a very mobile threat coming from their number 8. In fact it was Walmley who had the first chance, a decent strike that Harrison parried well. This seemed to kick Hampton on and we got our first corner of the game, which Jack put into the box and Rayyan recovered the ball and got it back to Jack who popped it back in where Rushy was on hand to nod into the far corner. 0-1.
Not too much else in the first half, a real scrap without too many clear chances.
Half time, 0-1.
The second half started well, when Jack bundled his way through on goal 1v1 and as it just looked out of his reach, the keeper fell onto his backside and the ball went past him, so Jack smashed into the empty net. A strange moment, but just shows that you should never give up when through on goal!
That second goal was the straw that broke the camels back, and Hampton were well on top now, although Harrison still made a couple of important clearances and the back 4 were having to stay alert.
The third goal came when Rushy's strike was saved by the keeper but Rayyan rifled home the rebound. Soon after that it was 0-4 when Rushy raced down the left hand side and made no mistake.
Walmley got one back almost immediately, when Harrison cleared but the ball bounced off the attacker and put him through, and he managed to score despite JP’s best effort to keep him out.
Only a momentary concern though which was soon squashed as Harrison pumped one forward and Rushy took it onto his left side and rifled it into the roof of the net to complete his “perfect hatrick” (right foot, left foot, header) taking his tally to a remarkable 23 goals for this season.
The icing on the cake would come when Omar picked up the ball in the middle of his own half and took it down the left side, passing several players before cutting inside and slotting past the keeper. A terrific solo effort from Omar and certainly the goal of the day!
Final score, Walmley 1-6 The Reds.
Great displays all over the pitch today, with Harrison earning praise from the opposition, Jack notching his stats up again and Rayyan typically battling hard and getting his goal too. Another game where Rushy pops up with a hatrick but unfortunately misses out on MOTM as the base for all wins is a solid defence and the outstanding performer today was Josh M who was solid in the tackle and composed on the ball, well done to Mr Reliable!
Well done to you all though lads, that’s 5 wins on the spin which is very impressive. 2 games to go!
