Home league match
Today we welcomed yet another good side to Hampton, top-of-the-league and unbeaten Hillfield, so again the boys would need to be on their game if they wanted something from this match… and boy were they.
It took only 2 minutes for the on-fire Omar to put us ahead, after some great work from Harry he made no mistake putting it past the keeper, 1-0.
The Reds were looking very lively and only some last-ditch defending was stopping us from going further ahead, that was until Jack popped one over for Fin to get on the end of and he confidently lashed it home to put us 2-0 up. Rumour has it that goal has cost his parents £20 so a great moment for Finley and hopefully this is the first of many this season, although probably not for £20 each time ??.
Red-hot Omar then bagged his 7th of the season (6 in 2 games) when Oscar played a through ball and Omar’s persistence paid off, when the keeper and defender appeared to get in a tangle and Omar tucked it into the empty net. 3-0.
Then came a moment of quality from Shipley Junior, confidently standing over the ball for a free kick outside the box, whipped one over the wall and into the left hand corner. 4-0 and in total control.
A blemish on the score card when the ref awarded Hillfield a penalty, for what he saw as contact in the box. He was at a different angle to me, and I’m certain the player fell over the ball. However, we don’t have VAR and luckily for us we were well in control so hopefully it wouldn’t affect us too much. Harrison did get a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out, half time 4-1.
The second half was far more tight but the reds still had some very good chances, with Callan, Fin, Omar, all going close, as well as an absolutely superb run by Harry from the halfway line where he drove into the box but unfortunately the keeper was there to keep his shot out. What a goal that would have been, keep going Harry, it will come!!
Hillfield did carve out one or two chances, the most notable forcing our superb keeper Harrison into a save at the far post when it looked like a certain goal. Super stuff.
Any hope Hillfield had of a comeback was squashed when Oscar lashed home to grab his 2nd of the game and seal the win for Hampton against his friends side, so bragging rights certainly sat with Oscar this time and he can be very pleased with his overall contribution to the game.
Some excellent performances again from the lads with notable mentions for JP who was outstanding again, Bailee who worked tirelessly and drove that positive attitude throughout the game, Jack, Rayyan and Omar who really did look the bizzo today and Finley who I’m hoping kicks on now with more goals!
However, todays man of the match had to be Oscar, having scored 2 and grabbed an assist, his overall contribution on top of last weeks performance was what I want to see every week, well done Oscar!
