Away league match

Today was a scrappy game away at Boldmere in the chilly Autumn sunshine.

We just couldn’t find any rhythm today, but we battled hard and kept trying for the full 60 which is certainly something to be proud of.

We did have a couple of early shots, but their keeper looked as solid as our keeper today and stopped most of our efforts and crosses with relative ease.

Boldmere did cause us some problems with corners, with some super deliveries and that paid off when they nodded home to make it 1-0. We almost found ourselves 2-0 down when the winger put a cracking ball in, only for their attacker to miss the ball and let us off the hook.

I think the thought of being 2-0 down really woke the lads up and we were to have our best spell of the game so far, which got rewarded when Finley burst down the wing and pulled the ball back causing some panic in their box and captain Ollie was on hand to smash home and get us level. Some dispute about the assist there but Fins excellent work down the wing means he’ll take that assist, as the touches before Ollie’s strike weren’t particularly convincing enough so I’m giving the benefit of the doubt.

We pushed to grab another before the break but couldn’t and it was 1-1 at half-time.

The second half I thought was dominated by Hampton, but unfortunately we just couldn’t get the bounce of the ball and most efforts on goal weren’t clean hits and didn’t cause enough problems for their keeper (who I would hope got MOTM for them).

We did almost get punished on the counter but Harrison pulled off a cracking save which was applauded by the opposition manager. Harrison does deserve a mention because a few times he also came racing out to win the ball, clearing everything and everyone in his path!

The game finished 1-1 and it was probably a fair result on a bit of an off-day in front of goal for Hampton… but the battling was still there for all to see and I thought Josh M had a very strong game today showing great composure on the ball.

However MOTM went to Fin and was fully deserved, he ran their defence ragged and did not stop for the full 60 minutes even when required for some defensive cover, well done Fin!

Back on home turf (and back in Red!!) next week for another tough match v Coleshill… couple of training sessions before then so hopefully we can galvanise the lads and get clicking again ready for the next one.

Have a great week, ??
