A brilliant way to finish the season today with a well deserved win against Gildersome, which secured us 2nd place in the league.
With a few players away we had to draft in the brilliant Lucy B, Aubrey and Beth from the U14s, along with our deadline day signing Daisy in goal, and all of them played their part.
I’ll take the blame for the poor start. I changed the formation before the game to try and accommodate the players we had, but it backfired. Gildersome were clearly up for it, started really well and deservedly took the lead.
We reverted back to our usual shape after that, gave the girls a bit of instruction and the game completely changed. Violet started to dominate down the left and Lucy B, playing in an unfamiliar position on the right, did exactly the same. That led to the equaliser through Violet, before she turned provider and played Eden in to score with a lovely calm finish.
From there we really took control. Eden added two more to complete her hattrick, before Shaunie followed in after a great strike from Aubrey was parried by the keeper.
Gildersome pulled one back with some route one football, but Eden had the final say with the last kick of the game, scoring an absolute worldie to round off a brilliant performance.
?? Coaches, Parents & Players Player – Eden
Four goals, including a worldie, says it all really. An absolute menace all game, hunted the ball down, constantly harassed their defence and fully deserved the clean sweep today.
A great way to end what has been a pretty successful season — 2nd in the league, only losing once, and Shield winners as well.
