Home league match

*Stamperland 0 v 6 Greenock HSFP Black*

A midweek league game played on a poor astro surface with very low floodlighting, Stamperland clearly hoping the conditions would be a leveller.

We started brightly and took control early on. Kieran and Mure combined well down the left, repeatedly getting in behind and creating chances, just unlucky not to convert early on.

The breakthrough finally came on 13 minutes when Kaiden latched onto Ben’s pass, showed good close control inside a packed penalty box, nice turn and shot into the bottom-left corner. 1-0

Around ten minutes later it was 2-0, as Mure chased down Bob’s ball over the top, took a great touch on the chest and fired into the bottom corner.

The third arrived soon after from an Ashton corner. Taylor headed it back across goal to find Kieran unmarked, and he rifled his finish high into the net. 3-0

Goal number four was a long-range strike from Ashton, who picked up a loose Stamperland pass and hit one from about 25 yards, giving the keeper absolutely no chance.

HT 4-0. A dominant first half, the boys playing with confidence and composure in possession.

To their credit, Stamperland came out livelier at the start of the second half. Shammy, who had been quiet for much of the match, stayed switched on and produced a good stop to keep the clean sheet intact.

The game then became a wee bit stuffy, with some sloppy decisions, felt we were trying to do too much when simple passes were available. But it picked up again when Mure returned in the No.10 role, driving us forward and getting at the Stamperland defence every time he picked up the ball.

He made it 5-0 on 65 minutes, showing his strength to hold off his defender before drilling a powerful finish into the far corner.

Two minutes later Dylan rounded off the scoring. After a mazey run from Mure, he laid it off to Sam at the edge of the box. Sam’s shot was saved, but Dylan reacted quickest, tucking the rebound away. 6-0

A solid team performance overall. We had a sloppy 15–20-minute spell in the second half, but considering the surface, the boys handled the conditions well and kept standards high for majority of the game.

Coaches’ MotM: Mure ?? Looked lively every time he got on the ball, constantly driving at the Stamperland back line, scored two nice goals and was involved in most of our attacking play.
