The boys came up against spirited opposition and a very bobbly, wet and muddy pitch in today's quarter final.
It was a slow start and Lilliput took the lead early in the game after a defensive mix-up. Fortunately, the boys showed resolve and resilience and dug in. In the end, the goals started to come, and Lilliput's resistance began to fade.
We started to use the full width of the pitch more effectively towards the end of the first half and there were some glimpses of the slick passing and movement that we normally display.
Credit must go to Benji and Noah who both weighed in with two goals. Jamie M continued his recent run of form with another goal and Luke B bundled the ball over the line at the final whistle to put some gloss on a rather underwhelming performance. Nevertheless, they won, and we now march on to a semi-final place.
Sometimes in football the result is king, and the boys had to overcome some torrid conditions.
Man of the match today went to Dom for his performance in central midfield. He showed his normal level of skill and passing but he was superb at winning the ball back and launching our attacks. Having joined at the start of this season he has really cemented his place in the team and is a real leader on the pitch.
We go on to next week and hopefully some better weather. Thanks to all of the parents for their support and putting up with the rain.
