vs Christchurch Youth FC U14s
Neutral friendly match
On a hot sunny day last Sunday, we saw the Panthers play a Christchurch U14's team in a post season friendly. We played the same team last year, and unfortunately the game ended up in an unsavoury battle against a strong and aggressive team. This team was very different to last...
We knew that we were losing Nathan at the end of the season, and Elisha had already joined AFCB Academy, so we were knew we were 2 players down in 2023/24. This game gave us the opportunity to incorporate our trialists within the team, and this proved very useful for the final selection of players to join the Panthers squad.
I think the best phrase to use is "Christchurch were at it from the off..." They demonstrated how much they have developed as a team, and were playing some lovely football throughout the team that left our boys, at times, chasing shadows.
When you play teams like these, you can only learn from how well they used the space across the whole pitch, dropped into holes within the formation and kept the ball moving back and forth between the lines before finding that killer pass.
Although the score line reflected a dominant display by the U14 team, the Panthers did have passages of play whereby we dominated the ball, but either held on to it too long, or tried a pass that wasn't on. Christchurch were also very good at closing down the play in midfield and stopping the forward pass... Something we can take away for next season.
All the trialists got plenty of time to integrate within the team, and it was pleasing to see how well they fitted into the group... Not playing as an 11v11 team before did offer opportunities for our opponents who were very organised.
Benno had an outstanding game in goal, keeping the score line to just 5, however, Barney just pipped him to MoM with an excellent display in the CAM role [winning the ball from some strong and powerful players, before driving the team forward for our attacks].
Thanks again to the parents for your support, and a warm welcome to all our new team mates:
- Aaron
- George
- Barney
- Tom
Up the Panthers!!
