After last week's disappointing performance (as well as result) Kaysha and I really wanted the focus and attention from minute 1 of arrival.
It still takes certain players too long to get in to match mode and it has to change. Luckily for us, the pep talk during the warm up seemed to work and the reminder that winning and losing can balance on a knife edge so the small margins matter.
With no referee AGAIN and no parent offering to run the line, we had no coaches available to manage from the sidelines and this really isn't the best. We need to be able to manage the game so at least one of us really needs to be handling substitutions and keeping the lads focussed.
I don't mean to sound unappreciative of all of the effort that goes in with the nets, coffee shop and filming but maybe we have to sacrifice one of those things! I will decide on this before the next home game!
Back to the football and we really got off to a flyer and pressured them from the start! We were applying pressure high up the pitch and after a scrappy own goal from their CB after great pressure from Kian, Tommy and Rio we continued in the same way.
Quick goals followed :
Tyler - just inside the box hit with the outside of the boot
Aiden - following in from Ben's rasping shot from inside the box
Aidan (moved to CAM) - a brilliant team move that saw Ben on the left play across through Aiden and Jack H with delicate lay off (something we worked on 2 weeks ago)
With that, the opposition crumbled and our superior quality was clear for all to see.
Antos bagged himself a couple of key goals to kill the game which included a 25+ yard right foot drive and Tommy/Ben/Jack H bagged their goals in the area with ease.
We handled ourselves brilliantly in difficult spots and Jack C with more minutes under his belt, Ollie H smashing it at right back and pushing up as a striker did really well, Kian with tireless running, Rio beating players for fun and Connor / Owen / Tyler making the midfield triangle work as it should. Oliver B is also coming on really well at RB and with a little more composure can make that role his own and if we can get Ben in front of him running at pace and with aggression, that will be a key option for us as the season continues!
Oscar, Captain Marvel, is literally becoming an 8/10 every week. Dominant in the air, smashing challenges and driving forward with the ball making it look easy! What a player.
All of this in front of Harvey who bagged his first clean sheet of the season (our 2nd) and dealt with the overhit through balls really well. Distribution was on point too.
Well done to all of you lads! We are making huge strides as a squad and we need to take this same level to Horsham Athletic next week.
