vs Wakehams Green Youth U15
Away league match
We had an opportunity to earn another 3 points to add to our tally but this is also a game that Wakehams Green can run out as Division 4 winners.
With 2 dropouts from centre back (Aidan & Oscar) we did not have the ideal start to the evening.
Also, once again, the players just do wait for the coaches to say 'go' to start warm ups.... It has been a full season that the warm up has been in place and they needto be more proactive to be match ready quicker.
Game kicks off, on a shabby pitch, but we got off to a flyer.... Every time we were in possession we were solid and we hassled hard when out of possession. 15 mins in to the game and the league leaders haven't had a kick. This happened when we played them at home.
However, the gaps started to appear between the CDM's and the CB's and the CB's were not attacking the ball..... As well as this, the back line didn't seem to be getting forward and backwards together like they did in the first 15/20 mins (when we caught their striker offiside 3 or 4 times).
The next 20 mins was like watching Newcastle v Spurs at the weekend, unfortunately we were like Spurs.
Mistakes happen in Grass Roots Football = FACT
But what we did is make a mistake and crush our team mate for it (as we seem to do). Then, we took a different kick off (passing to a different position than normal) and Harvey decided to take the Goal Kick (CB / RB usually does this).
We have to follow the instructions that are set out for the game..... Just because a mistake gets made or a goal is conceded, this is not a reason to change from our standards.
The one area that we are not strict enough is in the striker role. I now it is a tough job up there on your own but you do not need to be on the ball all of the time but you have to stay high and run with aggression. It is a bit of a lonely task, I get it! Believe me I do.... But that is the job.
4-0 down at half time and I was still in shock, we had played well but they punished us.
We came out after HT and blew them away again.... Kian had 10 mins of the first half to get himself in to the game and used his raw pace and timing of run to latch on to Ben's throughball and put us back in the game. We had another good spell of possession and carved out a few shooting opportunities. We attempted more shots in this game than in any other this season so another positive to come from it.
Lastly, I never want to hear players wanting to come off but sometimes it is a mature approach. Oli H felt his head going and came off for a few minutes but with Antos coming off and not prepared to come back on, it was more frustrating. Connor also came off and as much as we wanted to get him back on at CB to allow Jack H / Toby a 5 minute break, he was already stripped his socks, pads and boots off.
The squad needs to stay together through thick and thin in each game and over the course of the season.
1 more game to go and 3 points would be a great way to finish off the season.
