With a few regular players unavailable, we had Oscar back plus the addition of Dean/Dylan/Hasnat/Ali we were back to a full squad.
At a pitch we hadn’t played at before and by far the smallest car park the saving grace was the club house…. How nice it was being able to buy a drink and have a sit down in the sun…. Anyway, back to the game….
Agreeing to split the game into 4 x 20 min quarters, to allow for a drinks break, we got going….
We chased down from the front and Dean worked tirelessly! Supported a midfield 5 that, at times got caught a little high up the pitch but generally were well positioned to win the ball back and drive forward. We did it…. AT PACE.
Ben and Rio commanded the wings and Rio especially had the beating of his full back all day long!
Our back line never really looked stretched and Oliver and Harvey in goal were talking, distributing well and handling the ball really well.
With 2 break away goals aside, we competed all over the park and the game was really evenly contested.
We held on to the ball a bit too long and underhit a few passes but that is fine, I can take that!!! We dominated most of the 1v1 battles and restricted them to long range shots.
We stuck up for each other today lads, really dug in for each other. People getting hit by big challenges, then putting it back on them. Getting around the referee to protect our mates. That’s what it is all about.
Oscar hit their winger with a huge challenge and put him in his place and Connor went a bit overboard with the chat to the referee that earned him a straight red card but these are things for us to learn from - knowing how far you can go with the referee is important lads!
With our fitness levels and squad size we battled on and carved out some chances in the last 10 mins even though we were down to 10 men!
Well done lads and that is a great performance to end our pre season games.
Looking forward to the new season kicking off
