Home league match
Our first midweek fixture of the season and the rain decided to show itself.
This didn’t deter the playing squad, coaches or supporters but the ref didn’t have the minerals to handle such a big occasion!
Kicking off at 6pm gave us just enough time to get the game done and dusted before it gets dark!
Oscar was last to arrive so he missed listening to Rio’s playlist. To be fair, Rio was in the changing rooms and he said he didn’t hear it either haha.
We pumped ourselves up before the game by putting in great effort in the warm up, getting focussed and listening to the last minute instructions whilst Right Here, Right Now blared out of the speaker. We were ready to go.
From the first whistle (Dan shouting ‘Let’s Play) we were intent on winning the ball back, creating chances and playing top class football.
We won our individual battles and as instructed in the changes room, first 5 minutes needed a massive challenge to let the opposition know what we were about! Aidan and Oscar had each other’s backs all without over stepping the mark!
We created chance after chance but couldn’t quite get the finishing touch and then bang…. Tyler, who created chances all night and bossed the midfield, sent Owen clear who showed all of his striking instinct and coolness to slot home! The celebrations that ensued were great to see but so was the level of calmness we showed to keep them at bay until half time.
We came out for the 2nd half with the same energy we started the first and even though Oakwood were superb on the night, we were always first to the ball, quicker than them and we got the challenge that little bit earlier and stronger.
Owen, once again set up by Tyler, finished and their keepers head went down from this point and so did the rest of their squad.
An own goal by them ruined any chance they had of getting back in the game, or did it! A goalmouth scramble in our box saw their forward get fouled but the advantage given saw their CAM smash the ball in the back of the net to make it 3-1.
And then, a moment of sheer brilliance! Superb build up play saw the ball being played down our right hand side. Tommy checked his run off the ball as he came back from an offside position and then the through ball came to him…. An inch perfect cross to Owen, now playing as striker, saw him volley it in to the roof of the net to kill the game off. What a move, what a goal, what a performance and what a celebration.
Oscar was named MoM and he was well supported by all players in the squad.
Up The Hawks ?? ??
