A tough game to end our campaign on but blimey what a performance.....
Everything from the feel around the group, the support, the effort, the positivitiy..... Matched with the quality of football was superb. The whole season, in my opinion, has been a roller coaster and I have enjoyed watching the lads in the last few weeks finally overcome the challenges that a season will always throw at them.
The performance, from back to front, was brilliant. We looked comfortable all the way through the game and with the subs coming on and making instant impacts, all be it for short bursts, was great to see.
The squad is what delivered the 2-1 win and at times we had to dig in, make changes and freshen things up... Not one player moaned. It was a dream.
The football we have played in patches has been getting better and better and next season I think we can build on this becoming more and more consistent.
Oliver Lucas definitely kept us in the game with a couple of great saves, the one to his bottom right in the 2nd half was crucial as the game was 1-1. Tyler was the usual Tyler, full of work rate and whenever a team mate (or himself) lost the ball, he fought until he recovered it. Rio, Owen, Ben, Jack C, Tommy and Aidan all made constant runs for Connor to pick out passes and also the full backs always overlapped to get involved too.
Rio quite rightly pointed out that we have to get some work in on the training field about how we press from goal kicks to ensure we are not exposed (my words but I agreed completely with the sentiment).
The goals, well....... 2 more absolute top class finishes with delightful assists too.... Connor slipping Owen through after a great piece of possession play for him to finish past the helpless keeper, Rio with another brlliant corner for Oli H to bag his second of the season with a close range volley into the roof of the net to secure the points.
Well done to Connor on a top class performance, earning him MoM for the first time this season (sounds ridiculous when I write it but it just goes to show how good some performances have been).
This game was my favourite from the whole season, just the togetherness shown, no moaning and bitching....
Managing should be like this every game.
Well done and looking forward to pre season already :)
