Away cup match

Back home to the fortress that is Finches Field, only this time in the away changing rooms.

With Oscar dropping out due to injury ahead of the game we moved Antos to CB and Ty was named as RB. But Ty was 12 mins late so Oliver B was moved from the bench to starting XI! We are clamping down on the availability and arrival times lads. Harsh lessons to learn but they are necessary all the same!

The warm up was a little off as the cones weren't laid out and as we said, there needs to be some forward thinking and leadership, maybe from the captain, to ensure things are done properly!!

We lined up before entering the pitch and as we walked out we followed it with a very well respected minute silence for the queen... Well done lads!

We started really well and Ben continued with his recent form by terrorising the full back and beating him time and again. Rio, Aiden, Connor and Owen attacked well and they all supported the play whether out wide or through the middle!

Tyler gave us the cover and protection in front of the CB's but Antos drove us forward from there and Aidan was like a rock at the back.

Our full backs had a mixed bag, Oliver worked hard as always but lacked a little composure when on the ball but Jack C was in beast mode today from minute 1! Overlapping runs, short & long range passes, strong challenges and great chat.

Oliver L, making his first start in goal this season, was commanding his area and distributed well. There wasn't a lot of threat at goal so concentration was key...

Aidan was on top in all of his battles but after a feisty clash with the forward saw both of them sent for an early bath along with Nuno (quite over the top in my opinion)!

Both teams down to 10 men but we had the game sewn up! SURELY!?! 3-0 due to goals from Aiden (opposite foot), Connor (volley from a corner) and Rio (solo goal)!

But once again, like we did at Perrywood on Tuesday, we got ahead of ourselves and thought the job was done and we started all bombing on, neglecting our defensive duties and ignoring the positions the coaches had set them! They nicked a scrappy goal back and it stayed 3-1 for a bit too long for my heart rate to cope with. We were lucky that Kailas and Dean didn't have the shooting boots on today as we gave them so many chances.

Goals from Kian (making his season debut) and Owen (another captains performance) secured it late on!

Some real highlights:

We are brave in the air

We attempt lots of crosses

We are trying to get shots away

Individual highlights:

Ben's aggressive running and physicality was superb AGAIN

Aidan was dominating the game before the red card

Owen was a boss all over the pitch

Aiden was quality going forward but also battling in defence

All that said, MOM went to Jack C after a fine display at LB, CB and RW.

We are through to the next round where we will go head to head with Cuckfield Cosmos Athletic from Div 3

Up The Hawks
