Away league match

With our final midweek fixture of the season, we look to maintain our 100% record and regain top spot back from Southwick!!

A really good warm up and loads of positive energy around the pitch, we were confident that our no nonsense approach and high levels of focus will be enough to see us through.

Knowing it would be a tough, physical game…. Aiden Powell was cleaned out by the keeper in front of goal….. Ben hit the free kick through the wall and the keeper safely gathered it.

We worked hard and created a few chance but just couldn’t nick one. Harvey, who was always patrolling the borders of the 18 yard box, found himself in 2 minds and got caught out when lobbed by their striker to put us 1-0 down.

This was something that would test our resolve and character and for the next 15 mins we could have conceded again but good tidy up work from Harvey.

Our back 4 looked great and a commanding performance from Aidan at CB really helped us remain calm and focussed.

Going forward, we chased hard and carved out a few chances of our own. Loads of corners too as we forced their defenders in to clearing the ball quickly and hastily.

Ollie Hobden was turning their defenders around quickly with his trademark long throw ins, it was actually the quality of his goal kicks that then led on to him taking after kick inside our own half.

It was great strike to get the ball up to Connor who delicately dinked it over the on-rushing keeper. That’s 1-1 and at HT I was comfortable with taking that as the full time result.

2nd half, the light fading and the sound of Star Wars blaring out in the background and we had rekindled our desire to take all 3 points…..

We have a steely grit about us that we haven’t had in previous seasons! The desire to get forward has always been there but the aggressive running and intention to win the ball back is always improving.

Another fantastic corner delivered and Connor once again comes up with the goods with a solid header in to the top corner from Tommy’s cross.

We take 3 points and return to the top of the league….. love it.

There is so much I could write about all of you tonight but I’ll hold off until later in the season ??
