Furngate FC faced off against Hampden Arms in a tightly contested cup away match held at Newhaven Football Club on 22 September 2024. The match kicked off at 7:30pm and concluded with Hampden Arms emerging victorious with a final score of 2-0.

Furngate FC adopted a 4-4-1-1 formation, a tactical setup that emphasises both defensive solidity and midfield control. In this arrangement, two full-backs provided width, while the central defenders focused on thwarting Hampden's attacking threats. The midfield quartet was positioned to support both defence and attack, with the central midfielders tasked with controlling the tempo and distributing the ball effectively. Ahead of them, a lone striker operated as the focal point of the attack, with a supporting forward dropping deeper to link play and create opportunities.

The substitutes for Furngate FC gave strong presence on the bench and provided options for tactical adjustments and fresh legs as the match unfolded.

As the first half progressed, both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances, with the defensive lines holding firm. The referee, Calogero Rizzo, maintained control of the game, ensuring that the physicality of the contest did not escalate beyond reasonable limits.

Furngate FC had fantastic chances to score after 3 breathtaking moves as the upper hand started to be gained. But converting was not on our plan for the evening!!

At the halfway mark, the score remained goalless, with both sides looking to regroup and reassess their strategies during the interval. The referee's performance was noted for its efficiency, receiving commendation from both sets of players.

As the second half commenced, Hampden Arms found their rhythm and began to apply more pressure on the Furngate defence. Their persistence paid off as they broke the deadlock, scoring the first goal that shifted the momentum in their favour.

Furngate FC, now trailing, pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but their efforts were thwarted by a resolute Hampden defence. The home side capitalised on the gaps left by Furngate's attacking intent, adding a second goal that effectively sealed the match.

Despite the defeat, Furngate FC's players displayed commendable effort and determination throughout the contest. Jake Mayne was recognised as the standout performer, showcasing skill and tenacity in a challenging encounter.

In the end, Hampden Arms' ability to convert their chances contrasted sharply with Furngate's struggle to find the net, leading to a disappointing exit from the cup for the visitors.
