Home league match
On 5 October 2025, Frome Athletic Under 14s hosted Wroughton Youth FC U14 Hurricanes at the Writhlington Sport Centre in a league fixture that kicked off promptly at 2:30pm. The 70-minute contest ended in a 1-0 defeat for Frome Athletic, with the visitors snatching a late goal to claim all three points.
Frome Athletic lined up in a 4-5-1 formation, aiming to control the midfield and provide solid defensive cover. Finlay Patrick guarded the goal, supported by a back four comprising Jahmiah Harding at right back, Elliott Atwood and Dylan Turner as central defenders, and Dempsey Matthews on the left. The midfield five featured Sullivan Collis on the right flank, Zak Daniels, Max Norris, and Leo Griffin centrally, with Archie Hansford operating on the left. Up front, Archie Preston was deployed as the lone striker, tasked with holding up play and capitalising on chances created by the midfield. Tyler Oxley, Ethan Oatley and Nicolaj Ostergaard also made appearances throughout and like the rest of the team battled hard but sadly to no avail.
The first half saw Frome Athletic striving to impose their rhythm, with the midfield quintet working hard to link defence and attack. Despite their efforts, the match remained goalless at the interval, with both sides cancelling each other out in a tightly contested opening 35 minutes. The best chance fell to the home side who hit the post after 29 minutes.
As the second half unfolded, Frome Athletic continued to press for a breakthrough, but Wroughton Youth remained resolute at the back and looked dangerous on the counter. Frome Athletic best spell occurred on the hour mark with first Archie Preston firing just wide after good work from the Frome midfield. Just moments later after a scramble in the box the ball fell to Max Norris who put the ball just past the keepers left hand post.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 68th minute when Wroughton Youth scored from inside the box, a decisive moment that ultimately decided the outcome from their number 14.
A sucker punch for the home side and the match concluded with Wroughton Youth securing a narrow 1-0 victory, leaving Frome Athletic to reflect on a hard-fought encounter at home.
