vs Kirkcaldy YMCA

Home league match

Fossoway return to winning ways with a victory to end 2019 with a much-needed three points over Kirkcaldy at The Myre.

It was the visitors who got off the blocks quickest when YMCA's Brown rounded stand-in skipper Mark Robertson but his shot cannoned off the post.

The deadlock was broken in the 6th minute after a great move with Jamie Forrester who slid an inch-perfect ball through to Callum Grindlay who was brought down in the box. Ciaran Reilly stepped up to smack home the resultant penalty to give Foss the lead.

Forrester was the instigator for goal number 2 in the 17th minute when he drove to the byline and sent over a tantalising cross across the face of goal which Grindlay had the simple job of nodding home from a couple of yards out.

Whilst it looked to be fairly comfortable, Foss still had their brief moments of wobbling but unlike previous weeks, they rode these out fairly unscathed. YMCA's Brown was alert enough again to intercept a misguided Caulfield header back and got in ahead of the advancing Robertson, but the visiting striker's effort was just off target in the 27th minute.

At the other end, Scott Powrie went close with a volley just past the far post in the 29th minute and Forrester brought a save out of the keeper in the 38th minute. Kirkcaldy were still looking capable of getting back into the game and Brown was again the culprit wasting a good chance to score by delaying his chance to shoot at goal and missing the opportunity.

Brown seemed to be the biggest threat to Fossoway's defence and he whipped a dangerous cross-shot along the face of goal in the 54th minute before the Foss trialist Gary Spence netted with his first touch after coming on as sub for Charlie Marshall when another clinical cross from Forrester on the left presented the goal at Spence's mercy to head home from 3 yards out.

Even at 3-0, Foss needed to be on their guard as the visitors won a penalty in the 62nd minute which Birrell converted. Forrester was unlucky with a rasping shot in the 66th minute which brought an excellent save from the keeper.

The three-goal advantage was briefly restored in the 81st minute when Forrester finally got his name on the scoresheet tapping home from close range after great play from Andrew Reade who held off a challenge in the box to play a low ball to the unmarked Forrester to finish.

Moments later, Kirkcaldy got their second penalty of the game for a foul in the box, and again Birrell made no mistake slotting past Robertson to make it 4-2. Reade went close with a smart turn and shot that was well saved.

Foss never needed to get into top gears but did enough to record an important three points to move up the table. Forrester was the Committee's Man of the Match with another promising and confident display who has really come of age since returning to the club in the summer.
