Home league match

A 93rd minute equaliser broke Fossoway hearts after a spirited display from the home side picked up their first point of the season against early League leaders AM Soccer at The Myre.

Fossoway were introducing a trialist return to old favourite Scott Sneddon and old guard central defender Ross Kinnell drafted in to add his wealth of experience.

The game got off to a lightning start with AM forcing the early pace with a couple of corners and an excellent save from Mark Robertson all inside the first two minutes of the game.

Action immediately switched to the opposite end and it was Fossoway who took the lead in the 3rd minute when a Sneddon corner was fired into the near post catching the AM keeper Wotherspoon napping and he made a hash of his handling and Bertie Gonsales was on hand to bundle home from a yard out.

Gonsales, Kinnell, Crookston, Munro and Robertson were doing a good job at keeping AM at bay, whilst at the other end Sneddon, Ciaran Reilly and Jamie Forrester were looking lively. It was Reilly who should have doubled Foss's lead on 8 minutes when he rounded the keeper but his shot cannoned off the post.

A free-kick conceded by Forrester on the half way line proved to be costly as the free kick was floated into the box beating the defence's head and deflecting off the strikers leg and rolling into the net for 1-1. It was a very soft goal to concede for Foss, but they kept battling away and Sneddon and Reilly both had chances .down.

Reilly went close with a free kick from the edge of the area that rolled past the post on 51 minutes, while Crookston did very well to put an AM striker off when through on goal.

Foss re-took the lead in the 69th minute with a great move by Forrester who was causing the AM left back problems, he cut back before laying off the ball to Kieran Wilson on the left hand side of the box. Wilson finished with a sweet crisp finish low into the bottom right hand corner of the net. It was a cool finish, but owed much to the work of Forrester.

AM were still able to create a few chances and gallant defending from Foss and solid goalkeeping from Robertson was doing its job well.

Both sides continued to look for chances with Reilly through on goal bringing a good save from the AM keeper on 87 minutes, whilst Robertson also brought off a good save at the other end moments later.

With time running out, a momentary lapse in concentration at the back allowed AM striker Leslie through in the 93rd minute and he powered home an unstoppable effort past Robertson to break hearts.

On the positive side, it was a very good, hard working performance from Foss which will hopefully do much to breed confidence as well as fitness to the side. To lose an equaliser at the death may be disappointing, but the Foss had otherwise put in a very assured performance across the back line with Kevin Crookston picking up the Committee Man of the Match, with Forrester also getting a good mention at the other end of the field.
