vs Sinfin Sharks
Home league match
We had been looking forward to a tough game against Mickleover Sports Red today as we know they are a good strong side, unbeaten in the Summer League like ourselves but unfortunately it wasn't to be, as we walked out onto the pitch we realised we were alone ! They had cancelled the match only it would appear they forgot to tell anyone.
As we were about to go home slightly frustrated Sinfin Sharks stepped in and said they would play us. As they had played earlier in the day we decided to play a 20 minute first half followed by a 15 minute second as their lads would definitely tire in this heat. The temperature was tough for all and but at half time we walked off with a 3-0 lead.
After a much needed rest we went back on for a final 15 minutes. Sinfin were clearly very tired which was no surprise given what they had played today and with the heat.
Jake was on fire (not literally) scoring a total of 4 (or 5 if you count the corner he took which the keeper accidentally dropped the ball over the line and into the net) therefore I thought it best to spare Sinfins blushes as they were great sports playing us so I decided to mix things up a bit for the last 6 or 7 minutes and put our defensive rock Callum upfront. The whole team was routing for him to score which was great to see but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
The game ended 7-0. Not the most disciplined performance we have played this year but certainly a tough one given the extreme heat. Jake was clinical making it an easy decision for me to give him man of the match. Had I not moved him back in the second half I'm sure he would have had more goals to his credit.
Parents man of the match went to Alex Hill for his brace. Alex is really making the left wing position his own and it is great to see him on the score sheet once again. Well done all and Im already looking forward to next week.
