Rolls Royce Summer League 10-06-18 11-30am

First game of 11 a side for Field Lane Black Eagles, first game of the Rolls Royce Summer League, first game with a new manager and coach, what could possibly go wrong ? ! Codnor Boys not turning up that’s what ! I’m glad to say though that the organisers were great and so were the players and parents and we were soon playing football.

First up it was Sinfin Sharks. It was never going to be easy with 4 new players, a new formation having just gone to 11 a side and a bigger pitch but the lads were outstanding comfortably winning 2-0 in the end. Goals for star striker Luke and defender supremo Cohen. Well done boys.

Next was Mickleover 95 Marvels. The temperature was rising and so was the competition but again the lads took the lead with an incredibly composed finish by Luke. Mickleover were not going to make this easy for us though and a superb header from a corner made it 1-1. It was a hot day where it would have been easy for the lads to drop their heads and lose concentration but no, they were on fire (literally !). Some fantastic work resulted in Alex slotting it in to the back of the net making the final result 2-1 for another well deserved win.

Its not all about the goals but it was good to see 3 out of the 4 goals came from the new lads which I’m sure will give not only them confidence, but also the players around them. All 4 new players fitted in great and played outstanding in whichever position we asked them to play so well done to them and welcome to Field Lane.

It was a great team performance where anyone of the lads could have been given man of the match but Cohen for me shone and it was great to see him pop up with a cheeky long overdue goal. I’m sure it wont be his last for this campaign !!

I’m now off to rub some aftersun on my poor head so see you all next week where we’ve got it all to do again……
