This was always going to be a tough one for us, a step up from last week with Allenton being a well organised successful team so the lads were going to have to be as disciplined as them, if not more so. Luckily for us..... we were !
It has to be said, after soaking up much pressure for the majority of the first half, going against the play we got a corner which we were going to have to make the most of as chances this half were limited. A great cross from Jake, a bit of a bobble and new boy Alex smashes it home to take us to the end of the first half 1-0 up.
The boys came off and it has to be said looking shattered, Allenton had considerably more subs so were fortunate to be able to freshen up the side but we knew our boys were now up for it so they had to dig deep.
Second half started and we were instantly on the back foot with Allenton nearly equalising within seconds of kick-off. Shortly after they broke through and the score was 1-1. A fair result at the time it has to be said.
The boys however started to gel and we were really impressed hearing some encouraging remarks going through the players, it started to feel more like a team than a bunch of players. Some good football then followed and we were soon back in the lead. A strong goal from Jake, which was more than deserved and great to see him on the score sheet again, the first of many I'm sure.
Shortly after following a good attacking period of play we won a free kick just outside the box, big Josh king stepped up looking like a young Ronaldo, desperate for this hard work all game to be rewarded. 3-1, a great goal and and an even better celebration !!
Final result, 3-1 to Field Lane. Really proud of the boys today, they were shattered but played their socks off with a second half performance deserving of the win.
Man of the match went to Dani, not always technically perfect today but trying to mark arguably Allenton's trickiest player for 50 minutes in this heat was no simple task which he carried out perfectly.
Well done all, can't wait to do it all again next week !!
