Away friendly match
Death, taxes and Cai Andrews scoring on a Sunday morning. Three things that are certain in life and Wycombe Athletic found out the hard way that the latter of those things can be devastating.
In truth the return of Conor Kelly and the aforementioned Cai Andrews were the catalyst behind F.C Lions impressive 7-2 Friendly win against Division Four Champions Wycombe Athletic, with the Lions showing no trace of the poor performance in last Sundays friendly defeat.
Manager also welcomed Ben Forster, John Tilbury and Jake Sherwin back to Lions action, however all three had to settle for a place on the bench as Dan Hunt a Midfield triallist was given a starting place in the Lions XI.
Lions started off brightly and in the 18th minute, Cai Andrews was felled by the Wycombe Athletic goalkeeper, resulting in a penalty that was coolly dispatched by Andrews, despite the goalkeeper guessing the right way……..1-0
Four minutes later Cai Andrews, clearly in a buoyant mood grabbed his second goal, receiving the ball from Andrew Harris, Andrews lashed the ball passed the hapless Wycombe Athletic keeper………..2-0
Two minutes later and Cai Andrews grabbed his hat trick, with smart build up play by Jamelle Theobalds……….3-0
Conor Kelly fresh from his holidays helped himself to a routine goal, with his striker partner Cai Andrews feeling generous enough to play him in…….4-0
Wycombe athletic rarely threatened the Lions goal and only had two shots on target, shots that were routinely saved by Dale Why who was again standing in for Brandon Boyle who remains on holiday.
Half Time
Four changes were made at half-time.
Jake Sherwin replaced Andrew Harris
Ross Coker replaced Scott Sharples
Big JT replaced Little JT
Ben Forster replaced Ryan North
It was more of the same in the opening 10 minutes of the second half with Lions showing their attacking intent once again. Cai Andrews out muscled a Wycombe Athletic defender and slotted home to grab his fourth goal of the game……5-0
Wycombe Athletic were allowed a glimmer of happiness in an otherwise frustrating match for their players, a floated cross in was misjudged by goalkeeper Dale Why, with the Wycombe Athletic striker James Turner happy to head the ball into the goal……5-1
If anything Wycombe Athletic scoring seemed to motivate the Lions attack with Cai Andrews capitalising on some sloppy defensive work to set up trialist Dan Hunt with a simple tap in to restore the five goal lead…………..6-1
Wycombe Athletic were afforded another goal…when a mix up in defence led to the Wycombe Athletic striker slotting into the net despite three Lions players on the line………….6-2
Ross Coker who had enjoyed a fine 2018/2019 campaign, continued a rich run of scoring form by netting close to the full time whistle……7-2
It finished 7-2 and overall it was a positive performance from the Lions who seemed to be back to their goal scoring ways, thanks in no small part to Man of the Match Cai Andrews.
