Away league match

The Hawks had to once again dig deep but fully deserved to condemn Woodley saints to their first league defeat. The Hawks dominated from the off and missed early chances through Gleb and Taylor. Jake then had a a shot pushed wide by the keeper before he opened the scoring 15 minutes in. Kevin ,who dominated the early midfield exchanges, was the architect. He picked up a loose ball from a corner and fired off a a left foot strike which hit the post, the rebound falling to Jake who smashed in from a yard out.

Then the Hawks began to spray the ball about as they are taught to in training ,one and two touch . They quickly added a second with a lovely team goal, Jacob started the move and cuttin in from the right and finding Ewan. He played it first time into Jake's feet and continued forward collectied Jake's back heel in his stride and surged clear of the defence before planting the ball in the far corner. A great team goal. Michael scooped over and had a shot saved before Woodley had their first real attack. Chris chasing back and made a great sliding block on the Woodley striker just as he was about to shoot. the defence just about stood up to the test despite some wild clearances and the usual shoddy marking. Harry R was rarely tested in goal and comfortably dealt with a few shots. At the other end Jacob and Taylor were looking dangerous out wide , with Jacob putting over a couple of lovely crosses from quickly taken short corners. Michael and Jake were well shackled by numerous Woodley defenders, both often taking one touch too many.

The second half continued in the same vain with The Hawks on top but knowing that a Woodley goal could turn the game on its head. Jacob was starting to run wild on the right , first with a lsft foot shot after jinking in from the right and then a low cross which was blocked, jut as Taylor and Jake rushed in to convert. Jasan then saved the day, enjoying another solid game at the back , being well placed to clear a shot off the line at the back post. The Hawks finally put the game to bed 18 mins from time, Michael's shot finding the corner of the net despite the goalkeepers dive, he nearly made it 4 soon after hooking over from close range.

In the end a fairly comfortable win for the Hawks , their first away from home this season. A very scrappy midfield battle filled with mis -kicks and mistakes was settled by a couple of moments of magic and composure from the Hawks. MOM was a close call between Kevin And Jacob for differing reasons. Kevin put his head and foot in whenver required in a congested midfield and was complemented by Jacob's box of tricks on the wing. Chris and Ewan were also not far away with great performances , Chris at the back and Ewan all over midfeld and a great goal as well.

The Hawks go into next weeks home cup clash in fine form on the back of four wins in a row.
