Away league match

Euxton's early season troubles continued as a combination of individual errors and profligate finishing handed Furness Cavaliers all three points.

The visitors stormed out of the gates with Conway pulling the strings in midfield. Davies, Whittaker and Mawdesley all tried their luck within the opening five minutes before Pickup nodded home a McPhail corner to open the scoring.

The orange attacks were relentless as Pickup and McPhall both tested the Furness keeper, with Davies tormenting his full-back at every possession. Mawdesley had a golden opportunity to double the score on the 20 minute mark, but his scooped effort when through on goal drifted over the bar.

The hosts fought their way back into the game and managed to score with their first attempt on goal; a driven ball to the front post was met first by their striker who got enough on the ball to see it drift over Scott and into the net.

Villa looked shocked, but worse was to come as Furness broke down the inside left channel to snatch the lead via a splendid left-footed finish from just inside the box.

The 2nd half saw Villa come out all guns blazing, with Davies squaring for Mawdesley at the back post who narrowly missed the finishing touch.

Furness stretched their lead after some neat footwork flummoxed the Villa defense and an impeccable finish arrowed into the top corner.

Stewart was introduced for the rescue missions and could only watch as the Furness keeper made a point blank save from his first touch after good wing-play from Mawdesley. A mazy run from Heald could have resulted n a penalty as he was upended just inside the box, but the referee waved play-on.

Pickup doubled his tally for the day, hammering home a header from another Mawdesley delivery.

Just as the visitors were knocking on the door for an eqauliser, they were dealt a cruel blow as a defensive error allowed the Furness striker to run poke past the onrushing Scott to seal all three points.
