Match Report - ASHWOOD FC - 14 Oct 2023

A windy Saturday saw us take on current league leaders Ashwood, who have won 6 out of 6 - including a 3-2 win over ourselves on the opening day of the season. We felt extremely hard done by that day, so today was our chance to make things right.

We started off on the front foot, with an electric press and plenty of energy. Conditions made playing nice football challenging for both sides, but we dealt with it very well. We opened the scoring through Harry, who followed up on a good save from their keeper by thumping one into the roof of the net after an exceptional counter attack, peach.

Shortly after we were awarded a penalty after some lovely play down the left, however, credit to Ashwoods keeper it was a super save. We did extend the lead to 2-0 before half time through Serhii, who cut right through their back line and slotted it home calmly.

We dealt with their pressure well and maintained our press, nullifying them to long balls and half chances, while winning the ball back high and creating chances. They were a threat from set pieces but we dealt well again.

Into the second half and wind in our face we managed the game extremely well. After throwing away three 2-0 leads this season, we knew we had to go and kill it off and we did just that through Kian who grabbed his first for the club. Tidy finish into the bottom corner after more great work from Serhii in the box 3-0.

We made great use of a full squad, every single sub that came on was immense. We managed the game and saw out the clean sheet for our second win of the season. We haven’t been at our best so far, but today was a perfect example of just what we can do, up to us to carry that on all season.
