vs Monifieth Reds

Home league match

We continued our tier 2 league campaign this morning with a home match against Monifieth Reds. Looking to build on our excellent start to the season we were full of confidence having beaten Monifieth in 2 pre-season friendlies just over the last few months.

We started strongly and were in the ascendancy during the opening minutes of the game. Creating a string of chances down both flanks but we were unable to capitalise on these chances and just couldn't seem to get over the line. Our persistence eventually paid off though as Maison King collected the ball down the right hand side before making his way into the box before crossing the ball, which ended up in the back of the net, with the last touch coming off Monifieth's defender.

Looking to add to this lead we created further chances however Monifieth were started to find their way into the game mainly through some good work in the midfield. Just before half time they brought the game level again through a well worked move and cool finish.

Half time 1-1. I asked the team to start taking control in midfield, as Monifieth were in charge of this area of the pitch, and taking back control of this area was key to us going on to win the game.

Second half, as seems to be the case for many of our games the lads came out the traps quickly and we were now winning tackles and making our presence known in the midfield area. A good amount of pressure on the Monifieth defence eventually rewarded us with a goal, Maison King on the scoresheet as he finished well over the Monifieth goalkeeper. Crucial stage of the match now and the next goal would prove to be vital. Fair play to the boys who maintained pressure and playing the game in the Monifieth half mostly. Rhys Wighton collected the ball at the edge of the box and as he made his way towards goal was brought down by the Monifieth defender. Penalty awarded, which ever reliable penalty taker Maison King coolly slotted home to give us a 2 goal cushion.

As the match neared the end it was Monifieth who were awarded a penalty this time, which was well taken to bring the score to 3-2.

Another great win for the boys, not at our best today, but this group of boys always seem to find a way to get the result over line with their team spirit and determination.

Special mention to Maison today, who was outstanding and is in great form, having a hand in all three goals
