Home league match

Another home match this morning as we welcome Dundee Sporting to South Road 2.

Having played Sporting in a friendly pre-season and been beaten convincingly we were aware that we would have to be at our very best today to take anything away from the game. The team were set up so as it would be difficult to break us down and all the lads were asked to be switched on from the start and maintain concentration as Sporting possess a few potent threats up front.

The match started quite evenly - it was clear that Sporting would have the lions share of possession but we were looking for opportunities to hit them fast on the counter attack and that's exactly what we did as Eze broke clear on the break in the 16th minute to out-pace the Sporting defender and finish well past their goalkeeper. 1 nil to Dryburgh. The defence were holding out well despite a high amount of pressure from Sporting.Again we hit them on the break and it was prolific striker Eze on the scoresheet again as he prodded home a second to give us a 2 goal cushion in the 31st minute. Fantastic effort thus far from the team. We were hoping to go in at half time 2 goals to the good but Sporting were awarded a penalty just before half time which they converted well.

2-1 half time, fantastic first half, we were battling for everything and giving Sporting a hard time all over the pitch. Second half and chances at both ends. Layton Smith pulling off a string of remarkable saves to maintain our lead, and also chances for us which we failed to convert. The tackles were flying in hard and plentiful all over the pitch - it was a real battle right across the pitch but this group of lads were up to the challenge and Sporting were looking like they may run out of steam. Our defence were playing well as a unit and winning everything in the air as well as on the ground.

Just as it looked like we were going to take all three points though Sporting broke down our left hand side. With what looked like a miss-hit cross the ball somehow found it's way in our net to see the game finish 2-2. Really hard to take that we did not come away with all 3 points but whta an effort from the team. Reflecting on the game a draw way probably the fair result, but we did have chances to put the game our way.

Absolutely delighted by the effort, determination and will to win from every one of the players today - they left absolutely everything on the pitch today and there will be some tired legs tonight! Whole team receive man of the match, not just because they were all excellent, but they truly played together as a unit today. Well done to everyone. Good result
