vs Alyth Juniors 2012
Away league match
12:00 kick off in Alyth as we look to take 3 points home and jump to second place in the league.
Up against it today with 3 players absent due to illness and needed some big performances today.
1st half we were really poor, Alyth winning every ball and dominating the game. We did have a couple of chances but Alyth really in the ascendancy and they took the lead through a fine long range effort which found the bottom corner.
Half time we regrouped and made some changes. Brandon Wallace was moved to the striker position to try and bring some physicality to the front line and add pace. Josh McCullough brought on to steady the midfield as we try to get a grip on this game.
Second half started and now playing like a different team. It was all Dryburgh as we continued to put pressure on the Alyth. This eventually paid off when Brandon Wallace found the net through a long range effort which somehow found the bottom corner.
This gave us confidence and put Alyth on the back foot. It looked like we would go on and win the game from here as we final got a foothold on the game.
A goalmouth scramble in the Alyth box looked like the ball went over the line eventually, but referee said no goal and scores remained 1-1.
Just as it looked like we were to take the lead again an effort from our lads beat the Alyth goalkeeper but was saved on the line by the Alyth defender, who used both his hands to save the ball. Appeals for a penalty were ignored and the referee decided to play on.
Two similar moments followed, a through ball which Brandon Wallace chased down, and 50:50 between himself and the Alyth goalkeeper, ball there to be won both times, however the referee awarded Alyth with 2 free kicks, and a yellow then second yellow handed out to the Dryburgh player.
Dryburgh were to see a second red card produced, this time to coaching staff. Nick Lamond the offender, int he referees eyes this time. Nicks's protests about various dubious decisions were met with his marching orders being given as he was forced to watch the remainder of the game from the nearby play park.
Two minutes to go and Alyth broke down the park against the run of play and eventually slotted home to take the lead and the three points. Absolutely gutting for the Dryburgh team who fought tooth and nail in the second half and deserved way more out of this game.
One of those days where everything seemed to go against us. Difficult conditions, illness to players and on top of that some poor referring see us finish the year off with a disappointing loss.
On to next year though boys. Still in a great position in the league. We go again!
