vs Ashton Reserves
Away friendly match
Dragons continued there pre season against division 3 team Ashton reserves who are notoriously known for being their bogey team.
Dragons started with a 4-2-3-1 formation for the first time in pre season.
The match started with Dragons much on the stronger foot and took the lead with 5 minutes after a through ball to Adam Hinchcliffe was held up and passed to Marty Meddings to slot in from 12 yards. The second quickly followed after a quick breakaway following a good tackle by Scott Danby allowed Brandon to assist Adam Hinchcliffe who truffled into the top corner from 12 yards. The third and fourth goals quickly followed before the drinks break with Brandon linked to both goals. The third was slotted home by Marty Meddings after a shot was saved by the keeper from Brandon while the fourth was a good building up play from Hayden Cory and Max Danby, the latter assisting Brandon for his goal. After the mid half drinks break Dragons continued on with the goal fest with the fifth coming from a lob from outside the box by Marty Meddings after a good through ball from Ryan Beasley. The sixth again came from Marty Meddings his 4th of the day, a header from a corner from close range assisted by Max Danby. The seventh came just before the half time whistle following another break lead by Marty Meddings who calmly passed to Brandon to slot in from close range.
After the half time break substitutions we’re made to enable testing of a new formations of 3-4-3. Two more further goals came from Adam Hinchcliffe one following a shot from Dion Mayhew which was parried by the keeper and slotted in from close range, the second coming from the penalty spot following a foul on Marty Meddings. Ashton grew into the game and if it wasn’t for some acrobatic saves Ashton would have scored multiple goals. Despite Brett Danby’s best efforts Ashton pulled one back with two minutes to play following a break which left Dragons overrun at the back.
All in all a great game against one of bogey teams which we should take into the league campaign.
