vs Hatters United
Home cup match
The County Cup saw us travel to Leagrave Park to take on Hatters United, an opponent who we narrowly lost to in pre season.
Raptors set up with a 4-3-3 of:
GK: Big Dave
LB: Jack
CB: Lava
CB: Joe
RB: Bandy
CM: Fuller
CM: Pad
CM: Caino
LW: Mads
ST: Tommy
RW: Brendan
Raptors started edgy, and were caught a few times by a ball over the top. Hatters got behind our defence a few times, only for Big David Adams to pull off some great saves to keep it all square.
Raptors then gave Hatters the chance they needed. Dave throwing the ball out to Jack, was shut down instantly, which saw the ball deflect goalwards. The attacker then in the area finished off the ball, before being brought down by Big Dave. The referee giving a penalty, then changing his mind and awarded the goal. Hatters 1-0.
Raptors stepped up their game as the half went on, and started to move the ball around well. A few chances created, but still we couldnt find the net.
Cain Hamilton-Boyle then working well for the ball on the right, outmuscled the defender and put a delicious ball across the area for Thomas Tompkins to tap home. 1-1.
Raptors continued to attack, but couldnt capitalise on the score, and Hatters also created chances, but couldnt find the 2nd.
Halftime and the scores were even. A tactical change and a few subs saw us change to a 4-4-2 so Tommy had some support. The subs saw Adam Constable come on for Ryan Frear, Tom Noah Shopland come on for Matt Bandy, Cain depart for Jason Fleeting and Adam Fuller depart for Danny Warman.
Raptors started the 2nd half well and saw a wave of attacks on the Hatters goal. Ryan Maddock having a chance that was blocked, and went out for a 'GK' ?? as the ref who was having a mare didnt know what was going on.
Brendan Cunningham also had a great chance to put Raptors ahead. A weaving run saw him hit a shot from 8 yards out right at the keeper. Another chance for Brendan, saw a brilliant ball put to the backpost, only for his header to go over ( which the ref issued a corner ??).
Hatters had the ball in the Raptors net for a second time, only to have it flagged offside.
Sub Danny, on the less than favoured wing, kept getting into great postions and causing the defence problems. It was his desire to get the ball that brought our 2nd. Danny was brought down in the area and the ref pointed to the spot.
Tommy stepped up and slotted home to the bottom left, his second of the game. 2-1.
A few more chances from both sides, but no further goals, meant Raptors had progressed to the next round.
We would like to thank Hatters for hosting us, and wish them all the best for the season.
