A day where the wind was going to play a big part in the result.
Dalton kicked off with the wind at their backs. Aiming to stick to their usual flow of football although the ball didn’t seem to stick and the pass wouldn’t find it’s target. A slow untidy start to the game although as if from nowhere a deep cross from the right was met by Gareth Jones to put the home side in the lead after 14 minutes. This lifted the home side slightly and they started to play some better football. Craig Rutherford and Danny Leech looking to get plays moving in the right direction. On the half hour mark Dalton showed success from a corner which was met by the head of Ste Harkin. In the build up to half time the home side should of put the game to bed missing a couple of glorious chances.
Half time and the players were warned about the wind and how much it would effect. They were told to keep it short and on the floor. Also that they should of been out of sight and now they’d have a real fight in their hands to keep Furness Cavaliers out.
In the second half all that had been said seemed to be forgotten. Resorting to kicking high into the wind which proved successful once or twice but mainly went out of play losing possession or not reaching the half way line creating a 50/50. The Cavaliers players looked hungry, they pressed the ball all over the pitch and had a look of determination. There persistence payed off when a half hearted clearance found one of their players. He chipped the ball into the area and all of a sudden it was 2-1. Dalton with their heads down almost seemed like they knew what was coming. On the hour mark they made it 2-2 with a extremely soft mistake, when the goalkeeper rolled the ball to the CB on the edge of his area whom had 2 players press him, a bad touch set it into the path of high flying Kyle Delves to level the score. Dalton looked lost. Craig tried with all his might to lift the heads but today just didn’t lol to be happening. And further more embarrassment fell when the away side scored a third. Going behind somewhat lifted the home side a little however the strikers had barely seen the ball and were started to become untidy when they received the ball. A late ambitious penalty shout proved how poor the display had been from the home side which then resulted in handbags for a couple of minutes.
A extremely poor display from the lads, fingers crossed they can make amends next week away against Leyland
